Are you looking for rain
barrels in the Atlanta, Georgia area? These rain barrels are
perfect. Simply hook a soaker hose to either
style rain barrel and water your flower or vegetable garden
this summer using chemical free rain water. Your plants will love it
and you will not have to worry about forgetting to turn off the
hose. These rain barrels hold approximately 55
gallons
of water and can be linked together to collect even
more free rain water.
Do you want to design and build your
own rain barrel? We also
sell
rain barrel kits as well as many rain barrel
parts, including bulkhead fittings.
Did you know
that it only takes 1/2” of rain on a 1000 square foot roof to send
300 gallons of water down your gutters?
If you have been looking at
rain collection barrels for recycling rain water from your gutters, you
already know there are many shapes and sizes of rain barrels
available, from simple plastic trash cans to very fancy wooden wine or whiskey
barrels. All of the different
designs allow you to do one thing: catch free rain water from
your gutter’s downspouts (or grey water) and recycle it around your
outdoor plants and garden areas.
Here in the Atlanta area
we are in the middle of a severe drought. Some areas have
eased the outdoor watering restrictions slightly but most are still waiting to see what
the spring and summer rains bring before they lift their water
bans. What
little rain we do get seems to vanish very quickly. Take advantage of that precious rain and keep
all that water from becoming runoff and washing down into your
sewer by using rain barrels.
Your plants will thank you for using chemical free rain water…It’s
the “organic” option for plant food. All you need is a rain
barrel and a soaker hose and you will not have to feel guilty about
having a beautiful garden this summer. We use a soaker hose and a
watering can with our rain barrels. I have even seen people route pvc
pipes all around their yard for garden irrigation or just to irrigate one
or two areas.
I have one area in my
backyard that floods every time it rains. I simply installed a rain
barrel under that downspout.
Now, I have
a free source of water for my backyard plants, using the water faucet
on that rain barrel, and I can direct any overflow water
completely away from the problem area.
Have you been
thinking about painting a rain barrel? Krylon makes a
special spray paint for plastic called Fusion. It is perfect
for painting all types of plastic. I have been testing this
paint on some of my rain barrels. Pictures of the painted rain
barrels are available on the Painted Rain
Barrels
page. Stock barrels are usually either blue or natural (white). The Krylon paint is perfect for
painting your rain barrel to blend in with your existing landscaping and adds a
decorative touch to your rain recycling
system.
If
you have any questions, suggestions or comments about water
conservation or would like to know more about my rain barrels,
please email me. I would be glad to help you
create, design or build your own rain barrel. I also sell
rain
barrel kits
if you already have a barrel, drum or
other container for collecting water and would like to make your own rain
barrel.
